"JUSTICE FOR TRAYVON MARTIN" RALLIES GATHER IN 100 CITIES

ATLANTA — One week after a jury found George Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin, people gathered nationwide Saturday to press for federal civil rights charges against the former neighborhood watch leader, and to call for changes in the nation's self-defense laws.
The Florida case has become a flashpoint in separate but converging national debates over self-defense, guns, and race relations. Zimmerman, who successfully claimed that he was protecting himself when he shot Martin, identifies himself as Hispanic. Martin was black.
For some attendees, particularly those who are black, the rallies seemed as much about those larger issues as about the verdict.
"It's personal," said Cincinnati resident Chris Donegan, whose 11-year-old son wore a hoodie to the rally, as Martin did the night he died. "Anybody who is black with kids, Trayvon Martin became our son."

The Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network organized the "Justice for Trayvon" rallies and vigils outside federal buildings in at least 101 cities: from New York and Los Angeles to Wichita, Kan., and Atlanta, where people stood in the rain at the bases of two federal buildings, with traffic blocked on surrounding downtown streets.
Chants rang out across the rallies. "Justice! Justice! Justice! ... Now! Now! Now!" "`We won't forget." "No justice! No peace!" Many also sang hymns, prayed and held hands.
And plenty of participants carried signs: "Who's next?" "I am Trayvon Martin." "Enough Is Enough."
Most rallies began at noon. In New York, hundreds of people – including Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, and music superstars Jay-Z and Beyonce – gathered in the heat.
Fulton told the crowd she was determined to fight for societal and legal changes needed to ensure that black youths are no longer viewed with suspicion because of their skin color.
"I promise you I'm going to work for your children as well," she told the crowd.
At a morning appearance at Sharpton's headquarters in Harlem, she implored people to understand that the tragedy involved more than Martin alone. "Today it was my son. Tomorrow it might be yours," she said.
In Atlanta, speakers noted that the rally occurred in the shadows of federal buildings named for two figures who had vastly differing views on civil rights and racial equality: Richard B. Russell was a Georgia governor and U.S. senator elected in the Jim Crow South; Martin Luther King Jr. is the face of African-Americans' civil rights movement.

"What's so frightening about a black man in a hood?" said the Rev. Raphael Warnock, who now occupies the pulpit at King's Ebenezer Baptist Church.
"History would suggest that we have plenty of data to be worried when we see other folk moving through our neighborhoods in hoods. Some of them have on pinstripe suits – but in their hearts, they're wearing a hood."
In addition to pushing the Justice Department to investigate civil rights charges against Zimmerman, Sharpton told supporters In New York that he wants to see a rollback of "stand your ground" self-defense laws.
"We are trying to change laws so that this never, ever happens again," Sharpton said.
"Stand your ground" laws are on the books in more than 20 states, and they go beyond many older, traditional self-defense statutes. In general, the newer laws eliminate a person's duty to retreat, if possible, in the face of a serious physical threat.
Zimmerman didn't invoke "stand your ground," relying instead on a traditional self-defense argument, but the judge included a provision of the law in the jurors' instructions, allowing them to consider it as a legitimate defense.
Neither was race discussed in front of the jury. But the two topics have dominated public discourse about the case, and came up throughout Saturday's rallies.
In Indianapolis, the Rev. Jeffrey Johnson told roughly 200 attendees that Saturday's nationwide rallies were about making life safer for young black men, who he said are still endangered by racial profiling.
Johnson compared Zimmerman's acquittal to that of four white officers in the beating of black motorist Rodney King in 1992.
"The verdict freed George Zimmerman, but it condemned America more," said Johnson, pastor of the Eastern Star Church in Indianapolis and a member of the board of directors of the National Action Network.

In Miami, Tracy Martin spoke about his son.
"This could be any one of our children," he said. "Our mission now is to make sure that this doesn't happen to your child."
He recalled a promise he made to his son as he lay in his casket. "I will continue to fight for Trayvon until the day I die," he said.
Shantescia Hill held a sign in Miami that read: "Every person deserves a safe walk home." The 31-year-old mother, who is black, said, "I'm here because our children can't even walk on the streets without fearing for their lives."
Speaking at the White House on Friday, Obama said it's a reality for black men in American to "be followed in a department store" while shopping or to walk down the street and "hear the car doors lock." The nation's first black president said he had both experiences before he rose to social and political prominence.
At the New Orleans rally, La'Monte Johnson shared a similar story.
The California native said he's been stopped multiple times by police and handcuffed "because I fit the description of someone they were looking for," though he noted charges were never filed against him.
"You can be the greatest black guy around, but you can't get away from it," he said. "You're not equal."
Attorney General Eric Holder announced this week that his department would investigate whether Zimmerman could be charged under federal civil rights laws. Such a case would require evidence that Zimmerman harbored racial animosity against Martin.
Most legal experts say that would be a difficult charge to prove. Zimmerman's lawyers have said their client wasn't driven by race, but by a desire to protect his neighborhood.
Holder said the shooting demonstrates the need to re-examine "stand your ground" laws.
Despite the pledges from politicians and civil rights groups, people at some rallies said they had little hope of seeing self-defense laws rolled back significantly.

Kevin Parker, a 50-year-old from Stone Mountain, Ga., noted the conservative influence in his state, where gun-friendly Republicans control both legislative chambers and hold all statewide offices.
"Being that this is a red state, I just don't see that happening," he said.

Rev. Al Sharpton to rally in 100 cities over Trayvon Martin death

100 cities RALLY FOR Trayvon Martin death Civil rights leaders are planning vigils and rallies in 100 U.S. cities this weekend to press the federal government to bring charges against a former-neighborhood watch volunteer acquitted in the killing of an unarmed black teenager.
George Zimmerman had been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last year, but a jury of six women found him not guilty of that charge as well as the lesser charge of manslaughter.
“People all across the country will gather to show that we are not having a two- or three-day anger fit. This is a social movement for justice,” Rev. Al Sharpton said Tuesday as he announced the plan outside the Justice Department in Washington, D.C.
The rallies and vigils will occur in front of federal court buildings at noon Saturday in cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and New York.
Martin was visiting his father and returning to the home of his father’s fiancée in a gated community in Sanford, Florida, after a trip to the store when Zimmerman identified him as a potential criminal. The neighborhood watchman fatally shot Martin during a physical confrontation in February 2012.
Martin was black, and Zimmerman identifies himself as Hispanic. Zimmerman was not arrested for 44 days, and the delay in charging him led to nationwide protests from those who believed race was a factor in the handling of the case.

Sharpton says vigils will be followed by a conference next week in Miami to develop a plan to address Florida’s “stand-your-ground” law. The law gives people wide latitude to use deadly force if they fear death or bodily harm.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said such laws, which exist in many states, need to be reassessed.
“Separate and apart from the case that has drawn the nation’s attention, it’s time to question laws that senselessly expand the concept of self-defense and sow dangerous conflict in our neighborhoods,” Holder said during a speech before a convention of the NAACP civil rights group.
Meanwhile, protests over Zimmerman’s acquittal have broken out as far away as California, where rallies were small and calm Tuesday night. In Los Angeles, police had vowed to crack down with quick action to prevent a recurrence of the vandalism and violence the city saw on Monday night in street protests.
The Justice Department has said it is looking into Martin’s death to determine whether federal prosecutors will file criminal civil rights charges against Zimmerman, who is now a free man.
The key to charging Zimmerman lies in whether evidence exists that he was motivated by racial animosity to kill Martin. While Martin’s family has said the teen was racially profiled, no evidence surfaced during the state trial that Zimmerman had a racial bias. Zimmerman maintained he acted in self-defense. He claimed Martin was slamming his head into the concrete sidewalk when he fired his gun.
Zimmerman’s friends and family have repeatedly denied he harbored racial animosity toward blacks.
One of the jurors in the case — known only as Juror B37 because their identities have not been released — said in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper Monday that she did not believe Zimmerman followed Martin because of his race.
Juror B37 said the actions of Zimmerman and Martin both led to the teenager’s fatal shooting last year, but that Zimmerman didn’t actually break the law. She said Zimmerman made some mistakes, but that she believed Martin struck Zimmerman first and that the neighborhood watch volunteer had a right to defend himself.
Juror B37 said the jurors were initially divided on Zimmerman’s guilt, with three jurors believing he was guilty of either manslaughter or second-degree murder, but that the jury agreed to acquit him after studying the law.
Four other jurors issued a brief statement on court stationary late Tuesday saying that the opinions expressed by Juror B37 in the TV interview “were her own, and not in any way representative of the jurors listed below.” It was signed by Jurors B51, B76, E6 and E40.
The four other jurors said in their statement that Martin’s death weighed on them.
“Serving on this jury has been a highly emotional and physically draining experience for each of us,” the statement said. “The death of a teenager weighed heavily on our hearts but in the end we did what the law required us to do.”
They also made a request for privacy. The court has not released the names of the six-woman jury, which included five whites and one woman who appeared to reporters to be Hispanic.
In a statement to CNN released Wednesday, Juror B37 said she prayed for those who have the power to modify laws that gave her “no verdict option other than ‘not guilty’ in order to remain within the instructions.”

Jacksonville, FL: It's time to take to this movement to the streets and allow it to MOVE. Join us as we caravan and march against injustice. 54 People Were Shot Dead In Chicago During The George Zimmerman Trial

While the nation was fixated on the trial of George Zimmerman, who Saturday was acquitted in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, many were left wondering when the media would tell their similarly tragic stories of lives lost to gun violence.
Over the duration of the trial, over 50 people's lives came to an end in shootings in Chicago alone -- many of them black and many of them teenagers, just like Trayvon.
In the days since the trial, three more people were killed in Chicago shootings, including 16-year-old Joseph Brewer Jr. Brewer, who was gunned down Sunday afternoon while walking to visit his infant daughter, loved video games, basketball and was "family-oriented," his family told the Chicago Tribune.

George Zimmerman Verdict, NOT GUILTY

SANFORD, Fla. -- George Zimmerman, the man accused of murdering Trayvon Martin, was found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter Saturday night.
The verdict is the culmination of a case that captured the nation's attention and will undoubtedly be imprinted in America's history. For Zimmerman, it means trying to recapture his life after he was at the center of a national maelstrom over racial profiling, state gun laws and what constitutes self-defense.
The not guilty verdict means the jury of six women, after deliberating for more than 15 hours over two days, found that Zimmerman justifiably used deadly force. They determined that he reasonably believed that such force was "necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm" to himself — Florida's definition of self-defense.
Zimmerman showed no emotion as the verdict was read. After the verdict was read, he smiled slightly and shook hands with one of his lawyers.
The unidentified jurors decided Zimmerman didn't "intentionally commit an act or acts that caused death" or demonstrate a "depraved mind without regard for human life" -- Florida's definitions of manslaughter and second-degree murder, respectively.
In a press conference after the verdict, Zimmerman attorney Mark O'Mara said his client will now need to get on with his life.

"I think he's going to be great. I think he is still worried. Hopefully everyone will respect the jury's verdict," O'Mara said.
He offered his sympathies to Trayvon's parents for the loss of their son. But he said despite the national protests that erupted after the shooting, the case had nothing to do with civil rights.
Zimmerman's brother, Robert, told CNN's Piers Morgan that his brother was processing the reality that he is free.
"He has some decompressing to do," he said. "Our family was emotional. We are exonerated as a family and George is exonerated as a defendant. It's going to take us some time to heal."
For all the euphoria on Zimmerman's team, prosecutors and Trayvon's family faced a huge letdown. Trayvon's parents were not in the courtroom when the verdict was read.

Protests ensued in several cities, including New York, by supporters of Trayvon's family. Many protesters voiced the opinion that Trayvon was targeted and killed for racial reasons. Trayvon, 17, was black and Zimmerman is Hispanic.
"You have a little black boy who was killed," said Benjamin Crump, an attorney for the parents of Trayvon. "It's going to be reported in history books and 50 years from now, our children will talk about Trayvon Martin's case like we talk about Emmett Till."
Emmett Till, a 14-year-old black young man, was tortured, grossly disfigured and murdered in 1955 in Mississippi after being accused of flirting with a white woman.
In Zimmerman's case, State Attorney Corey stepped in and charged Zimmerman with murder on April 11, 2012. Prosecutors never argued that Zimmerman racially profiled the teen and instead said the teen was profiled as a criminal.
The five-week trial of Zimmerman, held in the same Florida city where Trayvon was killed, brought the facts of the case under a nationally televised spotlight, with every moment captured on camera. More than 50 witnesses testified, and when deliberations began Friday afternoon, the jury requested a list of the plethora of evidence that lawyers presented.
Some of the items include several statements Zimmerman gave to police, Trayvon's autopsy report and photos of both Zimmerman's injuries and Trayvon's body. Witnesses included forensic experts who testified about the angle at which Trayvon was shot, the position Zimmerman's gun may have been in, and where DNA and blood was found.
Other witnesses offered conflicting statements about how the fight happened, who had the upper hand when Zimmerman fired the shot and who was screaming for help in a 911 call recording.
The defense called nine people -- including both of Zimmerman's parents -- to testify that the screams belonged to Zimmerman. Both of Trayvon's parents and his brother all said Trayvon was screaming moments before he was shot.
In at times riveting detail, prosecutors tried their best to convince jurors that Zimmerman was a killer who "tracked" Trayvon, an innocent teenager, and murdered him before police arrived.
"That child had every right to be afraid of a strange man following him," prosecutor John Guy told jurors before they began deliberations. "This case isn't about standing your ground. It's about staying in your car."

Bronx Rapper @ProduktJRG - Signed As New Face Of L.E.S.

NICKI MINAJ POPS OFF...

Nicki Minaj BLASTED "Love & Hip Hop" star Kirk Frost for being a womanizing a-hole on national TV, and Kirk tells TMZ she was totally right to do so.

A recent episode of "LHH: ATL" aired showing Kirk cheating on his wife Rasheeda with TWO other women in a hot tub. FYI -- Rasheeda is 7 months pregnant.

Nicki ( a HUGE "LHH" fan) was pissed by the public display of douche-baggery and took to Twitter, writing, "Damn my n***a, after 15 yrs u wld embarrass the mother of your child while she's pregnant on nat'l tv like that? cornballs on deck."

She added, "And I dare u to say it ain't none of my business. U done sold it to vh1. It's everybody business."

But rather than try and makes excuses, Kirk tells TMZ he knows he acted like a terrible person, telling us, "Nicki Minaj is a woman and she was speaking about me doing inappropriate things. I can't fault her for that. Every woman in America who watched felt the way Nicki did."

CAN YOU BLAIM HER FOR GOING OFF ON HIM, I MEAN REALLY RASHEEDA HAS HELD HIM DOWN FROM DAY ONE. HE NEEDS TO REMEMBER THAT, DUDE STRAIGHT TRIED HER ON NATIONAL TV WITH AS DJ TRACY WOULD SAY GROUPIE HOES/GROUPIE BITCHES.

BUT HOW BOUT BENZINO WHEN ALL THIS WAS GOING ON, SMH, HE IS SO FUNNY TO ME, MAYBE MONA SHOULD TRY AND DO A SHOW TO FIND BENZINO LOVE.

Just doesn't get any better for Kirk Frost DOG!

As Kirk and Rasheeda continue to cover-up their break-up — all to get that VH1 “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” money — the fact remains: Mr. Frost is f*#&ing cold! Know why? Long before the couple made their cable TV debut, Rasheeda was holding dude down in a serious way!!!
We’ve learned Rasheeda forked out $30K, when Kirk’s son needed a lawyer for allegedly shooting someone; Rasheeda stepped to the plate and took care of Kirk’s brother’s kids, when dude was in hospital recovering from a bypass surgery; Rasheeda is now taking care of Kirk’s grandchild; and she’s helped Kirk come up with monthly child support to his first wife, along the way.
Now, Kirk is kicking it with common hoes like Alexis ‘Mary Jane’ Miller — a failed ATL rapper, who’s not only said to be the mother of Shaq’s lovechild, she’s starring in reality show-in-the-making “Real Mistresses of Atlanta.” That’s probably why ‘Mary Jane’ Miller had no problem with joining Kirk to cheat on a very pregnant Rasheeda.

RASHEEDA AND KIRK BOTH HAVE DENIED THE RUMORS

Some shocking information is surfacing – pointing to one ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’ cast member as not only a child sexual predator, but word on the curb in Atlanta says Kirk fathered a child with his very own stepdaughter daughter!
We’re talking about Kirk Frost. Sources say the D-Lo Entertainment founder has worked hard to hide the facts of his first marriage – before Rasheeda.
We’re told Frost did everything within his power to hide any trace of a child being born, after Frost’s sexual molestation of his now ex-wife’s daughter Rasheeda’s step-daughter. Don’t believe me.. Ask Toya Carter.
Industry insiders reveal that this explains why Frost’s LHHA character is portrayed as such a low key figure. Not only is this disturbing news, but it’s unsettling to know Frost is now father to an 11-year-old son of his own, who he shares with current wife, Rasheeda.
Here’s the drop:
“Rasheeda wanted to leave Kirk, but she a stupid broke dumb bitch.
For years Kirk has been known around town as a child molester, predator. Kirk slang dope back in the day, but he was a minor playa.
He’s a sneaky slime ball.”

TONI BRAXTON...BANKRUPTCY....

It seems like Toni Braxton has been in bankruptcy forever, she has finally settled her Chapter 7 blues ... and it cost her $150,000 to wipe the slate clean.

As TMZ first reported, Braxton filed for bankruptcy (for the second time) back in 2010, claiming debts as high as $50,000,000. Yikes.

According to docs filed in the bankruptcy, Braxton made a deal with the trustee to buy back some of the personal property she lost. The deal was for Braxton to pay $5,000/month for 15 months with the last payment being $50,000. Braxton made all the payments ... except for that last one.

The other part of the case hanging over Braxton's head was the issue of $754,000 Braxton made for overseas performances. The shows took place AFTER Braxton filed for bankruptcy, so she argued that she was legally entitled to keep the money earned from these performances.

However, the trustee argued since Braxton was technically paid before the Chapter 7 filing (the money was put in escrow before the shows, she didn't get it til after) she should have to fork it over.

The trustee and Braxton finally came to an agreement this week -- Braxton agreed to pay the $50,000 she owed for the property and $100,000 from the performances.

Lastly ... Braxton and the trustee came to an agreement that she could buy back the copyright on a slew of her songs for a cool $20,000. They go to auction on July 15 and they're hers, assuming she doesn't get outbid.

A judge still needs to sign off on it all ... but it appears this bankruptcy case is finally over.
I KNOW SHE IS HAPPY THAT IT IS OVER...

BEYONCE'S DAD GETS MARRIED...

Mathew Knowles got hitched last Sunday, but neither of his daughters, Beyonce nor Solange was in attendance for the big day.
Knowles tied the knot to Gena Avery in Houston, TX following a year and a half engagement.
But the newly-hitched Knowles says his famous kids couldn't make it to the ceremony, saying, "Unfortunately, Beyonce and Solange had previous engagements which made it impossible for them to attend."
Mathew officially divorced Tina Knowles back in 2011, though Tina originally filed in 2009.

Damon Dash- Tax Lien DAMN...

Damon Dash probably wishes he still had Jay-Z on speed dial ... because the cesspool of debt he's wading in just got worse ... he's been slapped with a $2.8 MILLION TAX BILL.

Dash -- who co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records and Rocawear with Jay -- has been open about the fact that he's drowning in debt ... despite the fact that at one time he was half-king of a multi-million-dollar business.

Now, his financial problems have worsened. Uncle Sam filed a federal tax lien against Dash, claiming he needs to cough up some un-paid tax cash for the years 2005 and 2011. The breakdown:

2005: $2,614,918.10
2011: $187,544.20

Grand total: $2,802,262.30 ... i.e. a whole lotta cheddar.

The 2005 bill is clearly larger ... which makes sense considering Hov and Dash parted ways back in 2004 -- meaning in 2005, he was probably still raking in some major-taxable bucks. 2011 ... not so much.

FYI -- Dash has said he owes millions in back taxes to the State of NY and NJ and claims he's lost multiple properties to foreclosure.

Meanwhile, Jay ... is still super rich.

DAMN, TIME TO PAY UP...
